How is the travel industry coping?

It is finally Friday night, and people go out for an after-hours drink or dinner, suitable for restaurants after the pandemic lockdowns. Folks travel again, as almost all restrictions are removed. But not all worries are over.

The war in Ukraine brought new headaches for the tourist industry. Russians can't cross the border to Finland. The increased fuel cost limits the middle class from hitting the road or going out. Asian clients are still staying at home.

Hotel owners are afraid of the consequences if the crisis ruins everything that was built with hard work for decades. The cost of heating the premises is higher than ever. Cashflow problems can be disastrous.

What else would they have to look forward to? After many years of ups and downs, it takes a genius to run the business; to make a decent profit.

The owner opened her eyes and looked at her business report, her partner and husband couldn't take it anymore. Make a phone call and go talk to the banker face to face to get an honest answer.

"I need a bank loan to survive and manage until the multiple stream of crisis is over."

“Yeah, that. Lots of that. We are basically good people, aren't we?”

She nodded in relief. “Yeah, for sure. And what are you going to do?”

“Wicked!”

Tourism and social media

Our firm developed a social media strategy for Alderbrook of several posts each week, each signed by the poster (a member of our team or staff that we trained).

The vast majority of these posts were focused on providing valuable content for those who are, or might be, interested in the resort, the marina, the spa, the restaurant, or the region.

We also, from time to time, posted specials, deals, and packages. We still made room for the big news events but now we had daily interaction with our fans on a myriad of topics.

Cultures guide to sketchy tourist operation scenario

An old Telefax about a logistical and communications problem related to a Region Centre Tourist “invasion” operation. This FAX was created sixteen years ago. Neural networking ideas about “how to get out from the dark” and dated 28.06.1994.

Tourism Bureaus and Bloggers | chrisbrogan.com

Tourism Bureaus and Bloggers | chrisbrogan.com: "After lunch, en route to the airport, Matt Homann gave me a great tour of St. Louis. We went through various neighborhoods, and I learned a lot about the history of the area, a few really interesting spaces, and some of the interesting news about neighborhood redevelopment.

It got me thinking: why aren’t tourism agencies looking to build relationships with visiting bloggers?

One group that is trying this out is Visit Pittsburgh. My friend and PodCamp organizer, Justin Kownacki, connected me into a program with Visit Pittsburgh that ties to the upcoming PodCamp Pittsburgh, happening on October 18th-19th 2008. They have a tour set up for me, and are doing a lot to show me the better side of Pittsburgh, a place I’ve visited three or four times now and find exciting and dynamic and full of great rebirth stories.

I’m not sure how it works. Maybe you have some ideas. Would this be the kind of thing that would attach to conferences being held in the area? That’d be a great way to find out who was visiting that might represent the new media. Or is there some other simpler mechanism to put people together on these kinds of opportunities? It’s on my mind."
