Wikipatterns - Wiki Patterns

Wikipatterns - Wiki Patterns: "pot of grass" | Looking to spur wiki adoption? Want to grow from 10 users to 100, or 1000? Applying patterns that help coordinate people's efforts and guide the growth of content, and recognizing anti-patterns that might hinder growth - can give your wiki the greatest chance of success.

Helge: I've tested a few wiki's but have no idea about this one. Need to come back one day.

Wikipatterns.com is a toolbox of patterns & anti-patterns, and a guide to the stages of wiki adoption. It's also a wiki, which means you can help build the information based on your experiences! Beyond this site, there are many other additional resources."

Stewart Mader helps organizations of all sizes and types improve efficiency, reduce email & meetings, and grow vibrant collaborative communities.
  • Day 1: Don’t force adoption! Let it happen naturally.
  • Day 2: How and why to use wikis instead of email.
  • Day 3 has not been published yet

Run a pilot. Learn to control the environment. Natural and gradual growth. Don't just pick early adaptors. They love new stuff and technology. Try to get the skeptics into your wiki.

Your competitors are using wikis. Your customers are using wikis. So are other employees in your organization. You need to use wikis too. It’s where your future is. And I’ll show you how.

Your organizations Wiki is a different thing. Wikipe A focused compact group uses it for collaboration. It's a reflection of your existing collaborative community:
  1. Collaboration
  2. Agenda
  3. Blog
  4. Documentation
  5. Replace e-mail and all the mechanics involved
  6. No need to wait and download changes in your crowded email box
  7. Go right to the wiki and make the changes
  8. In real world situations time is critical (5 minutes before a meeting changes)
  9. All the major changes are visible at the meeting
  10. Much more valuable use of time and collaboration continues
  11. Grassroots adoption
  12. Knowledge hub
  13. There might be a spike at the beginning
  14. It has to be easy to use it
  15. Improve the way your organization works
  16. Make a wiki available, let people feel where it is best fit and useful
  17. Embrace with the open mind of people participating
  18. Improving meetings
  19. Improving collaboration
  20. Keeping your organization better informed
  21. Promote deep use and managed progress
  22. Make it a lasting successful contribution to your organization

Where are we all in the summer time?

It’s vacation time in Finland and a valid question is where have all the people gone. Business life is at its low but retail stores are selling better in July than during the Christmas sales boom in December.

But those who use their blogs and wikies, jaikus and twitters are easily found. Put their name into a search engine and you will find their hangouts, where they are this moment.

Those who look for friends and business associates through social media isn’t yet a big number but web traffic indicates that the web presence is paying off. There is a global distribution of attention.

I need to think more about the content and what kind of pictures and visions to paint for display on the world wide web.

WikiCamp the unconference

Jimmy Wales recently traveled to Chennai, in India, to take part in WikiCamp, India's first wiki unconference. Wales is the founder of Wikipedia and president of the Wikimedia Foundation. He stayed with Kiruba for two nights while he was there. This conversation includes Wales's take on the difference between Wikipedia and Wikia, advertising or lack of advertising at Wikipedia and the future growth of the phenomenon.

Wikicamp is all about harnessing and understanding the power of Wikis.
